Event Date and Time:

J. Paul Getty Museum Field Trip

Seventh-Graders

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

The Getty Center, opened in 1997 to house The J. Paul Getty Museum, boasts an astonishing array of art that includes European classics as well as American and European photography.

Guided lessons, taught by professional museum educators, allow students to study a limited number of objects in depth rather than tour the entire collection. Lessons are highly participatory, and students work in small groups and engage in discussion, writing, role-playing, and, in some cases, art-making activities.

Ideal for first-time art museum visitors, this lesson engages students in an exploration of a variety of objects from the Getty Museum's collection of Western European art through grade-appropriate discussion and activities. Students will practice looking closely to actively construct understanding about works of art using their own observations.

On Tuesday, April 15th, seventh-graders will travel to the Getty Museum at the Getty Center. Students will depart La Canada Prep. at 9:15 a.m. and return to campus around 2:45 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Thursday, March 27, 2014.
