Roller Coasters Big Lab

Using the Giant Wall, students build a roller coaster and explore the concepts of gravity and energy. After a brief discussion with a facilitator about the forces involved to make roller coasters work students experiment with changing variables to investigate the effect of mass on speed, distance traveled, and energy.

Explore a paradise unlike any other, with the breathtaking film Galapagos 3D: Nature's Wonderland. Located close to the equator in the Pacific Ocean, these remarkable volcanic islands are home to some of nature's most incredible living creatures. Developed over millions of years in relative isolation, the Galapagos archipelago is a living museum of nature, with an abundance of species of plants and animals that have adapted to thrive in this challenging environment. Come experience this incredible story of discovery, of survival against the odds, and of nature’s ingenuity.

On Wednesday, February 11th, eighth graders will travel to the California Science Center to learn the science behind the roller coaster in the Roller Coaster Big Lab, and then travel to the Galapagos via Galapagos 3D . Students will depart LCP at 9:45 a.m. and return to campus at 2:30 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Friday, January 30, 2015.
