ORDINARY OBJECTS, EXTRAORDINARY STORIES: IMMIGRATION JOURNEYS TO AMERICA

What do contact lenses and a Hanukkah lamp have in common? Or a makeup compact and a Turkish tea set? On this tour students discover how daily objects and ritual artifacts can shed light on the ways immigrant groups become part of the diverse fabric of American culture. Students participate in small-group investigations and dynamic discussions as a way to explore their own identities in relation to family and cultural traditions.

On Friday, September 25th, eighth graders will travel to the Skirball Cultural Center for a special program to learn about the roots of diversity in our American culture. Students MUST depart early from La Cañada Preparatory at 8:15 a.m. and they will return to the campus at 1:45 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
