Poetry in the Chinese Garden
Thursday, November 12, 2015

The Huntington is a research and educational center set amidst 120 acres of breathtaking gardens. Three art galleries and a library showcase magnificent collections of paintings, sculptures, rare books, manuscripts, and decorative arts. The botanical collection features over 14,000 different species of plants.

A private, nonprofit institution, The Huntington was founded in 1919 by railroad and real estate developer Henry Edwards Huntington and opened to the public in 1928.

Poetry in the Chinese Garden

Using poetry as an entry point to the culture of Chinese gardens, students immerse themselves in the garden experience. They compare Chinese and Western landscape styles, learn about the role of literature in the garden, and create and share their own two-line poems inspired by what they see.

On Thursday, November 12, 2015, seventh-grade students will be traveling to the world-renowned Huntington Gardens to visit the beautiful Chinese Gardens and experience first-hand how nature influences literature. Students will be departing La Cañada Preparatory at 9:00 a.m. and returning to campus at 1:00 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.
