The 46th Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival
Fifth Grade
Wednesday, February 17, 2016

The Children's Festival is sponsored by The Blue Ribbon, a support group of the Music Center founded in 1968 by Dorothy Buffum Chandler. The annual festival began in 1970 as part of the Music Center's commitment to engage young people in the arts, and is one of California's longest ongoing free arts education programs.

The Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival is an annual program specifically designed for fifth grade students to attend a live, professional performance at The Music Center. Following each performance, all participating students perform a short choreographed dance inspired by the production.

The 2016 festival will feature Black Violin, two classically trained instrumentalists, who created a distinctive style- a blend of classical, hip-hop, rock, R&B, and bluegrass; and Rennie Harris-RHAW, whose mission is to focus on education and mentorship, technique, and work ethic while presenting hip-hop in its RHAW-est form.

Our fifth graders have the opportunity to attend the Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. They will depart the school at 9:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on field-trip day.

Do not let your child miss out on this special opportunity. Please complete and return the attached field trip permission form by Friday, February 5, 2016.
