4th Graders
Friday, February 26, 2016

The Amgen Science Center for Science Learning is the educational arm of the California Science Center. The Amgen Science Center is dedicated to promoting lifelong science learning for all and seeks to improve science education by providing science experiences and resources to parents, teachers, children, and scientists.

Students will explore erosion and the movement of water using the Big Lab's 12 ft. long stream table in Exploration Grove. Students will then construct a stream table and design investigations to explore how the properties of materials affect the ability of the material to slow down erosion. A facilitator will guide students in thinking about the process of experimentation as they test out the permeability of different materials as a class. The program concludes with students designing a landscape that will protect a house from erosion.

National Park 3D
Embark on the ultimate off-trail adventure into America’s awe-inspiring great outdoors. Learn its history and the vital contributions of John Muir and President Teddy Roosevelt to the establishment of our national park system. For 100 years, such spectacularly wild and beautiful places as Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Everglades, the Redwoods, and Arches have been a living monument to the nation’s vast and untamed wilderness. Now, captured with IMAX® 3D cameras, National Parks Adventure 3D, celebrates the majesty of these treasured landscapes.

On Friday, February 26th, fourth graders will travel to the California Science Center to experience the lab, Erosion. Students will depart La Cañada Preparatory at 8:15 a.m. and return to the campus at 1:30 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Friday, February 12, 2016.
