Getty Villa Field Trip
Sixth Graders
Monday, March 21, 2016

The Getty Villa in Malibu is an educational center and museum dedicated to the study of the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. The Villa serves a varied audience through the permanent collection, changing exhibitions, conservation, scholarship, research, and public programs. Guided lessons, taught by professional museum educators, allow students to study a limited number of objects in depth rather than tour the entire collection. Lessons are highly participatory, and students work in small groups and engage in discussion, writing, role-playing, and, in some cases, art-making activities.

Daily Life in the Ancient World
Built upon the theme “a day in the life of . . . ,” students are encouraged to think about ancient objects and ideas that still have an effect on our daily lives. This lesson encourages students to closely investigate objects in the Museum's collection that are related to daily life in the ancient world.

On Monday, March 21, 2106, sixth graders will travel to ancient Greece and Rome via the Getty Villa. Students will depart La Canada Preparatory at 8:00 a.m. and return to campus around 2:00 p.m. Please note the early departure time.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Freshlunches on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Friday, March 4, 2016 .
