SUPER CELLS: The Power of Stem Cells
Stem cells are the basic unit of all known living organisms. Vital to life, stem cells enable the body to grow, renew tissue, and heal wounds. Every second, our bone marrow stem cells produce two million new red blood cells. Without stem cells, humans could not survive. SUPER CELLS allows guests to observe stem cell research within a replica lab, and grow virtual eye stem cells used to treat patients. Discover the extraordinary abilities of stem cells living within us all.

A Beautiful Planet 3D is a breathtaking portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet and galaxy as never seen before. Made in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the film features stunning footage of our magnificent blue planet captured by the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). A Beautiful Planet 3D presents an awe-inspiring glimpse of Earth and a hopeful look into the future of humanity.

On Wednesday, August 31, 2016, seventh graders will travel to the California Science Center to see the special and interactive exhibit on the magical abilities of stem cells. They will also view our planet from a different perspective in the IMAX, A Beautiful Planet 3D. Students will also have the opportunity to visit the Endeavour and external tank of the shuttle, which carried the propellant necessary to “launch” the shuttle into space. Students will depart The Learning Castle at 8:30 a.m. and return to campus around 2:30 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Choicelunch on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
