6th Grade
September 19th-21st , 2016

Nestled in a little meadow, high in the San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California, the Desert Sun Science Center is the perfect location for hands-on, outdoor science and the Astrocamp program.

Shaded woodlands, grassy meadows and endless blue sky become the classroom – the universe becomes the campus. Guided by well-trained instructors, students learn by firsthand observation . . . seeing for themselves the mysteries of the heavens. Nebulae with swirling gases, the rings of Saturn and the wonder of billions of stars unfold before their eyes as they gaze through a variety of high powered telescopes, video telescopes and giant binoculars.

Laboratories equipped with all kinds of scientific apparatus provide the students with the necessary tools to participate in the scientific method and experience the thrill of discovery.

Because of the variable inclement weather in the spring, we have decided to move Astrocamp to September. This year, sixth graders will be going to Astrocamp from Monday, September 19th, and returning on Wednesday, September 21st.

The total cost of the trip is $400.00, which includes luxury coach transportation, meals, lodging and classes. If you would like to make a reservation, please complete both the LCP Field Trip Permission Form and the Astrocamp Medical Release Form, and return both forms to the office with a check for $400.00 made payable to La Cañada Preparatory by Friday, September 2nd. Space is limited.

On the day of departure, students will need to bring a sack lunch, including plenty of snacks and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag.
