Boats and Balance

By building their own model sailboats, students investigate design and energy needed to move across the 40' x 20' Water Works pool. After becoming familiar with the boat names, students are given a variety of sizes for each part of the affect the performance of their boat. By keeping data in a class chart, students discover the importance of balance in sailing.

A Beautiful Planet 3D is a breathtaking portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet and  galaxy as never seen before.

Made in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the film features stunning footage of our magnificent blue planet captured by the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). A Beautiful Planet 3D presents an awe-inspiring glimpse of Earth and a hopeful look into the future of humanity.

On Monday, October 24th, third-graders will travel to the California Science Center to experience the lab, Boats and Balances, and watch the IMAX movie, Beautiful Planet 3D.  Students will depart The Learning Castle at 9:00 a.m. and return to the campus at 2:00 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag.  Please make sure that you do not order Choicelunch on a field trip day.
