The Amgen Science Center for Science Learning is the educational arm of the California Science Center. The Amgen Science Center is dedicated to promoting lifelong science learning for all and seeks to improve science education by providing science experiences and resources to parents, teachers, children, and scientists.

 

Cow Eye Dissection

This 60-minute program includes all required materials, including the cow eye, dissecting tray and gloves. Students will work in pairs to dissect a cow eye. They will see the major strutures of the eye and explore how those structures work together to produce images.

 

Take A Peek Inside

Enjoy a unque, first-time look into the Pixar movie making process, and explore the science and technology behind some of the most beloved animated films and their characters with the west coast premiere of The Science Behind Pixar Exhibition. This 12,000 sq. ft. interactive exhibition showcases the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts used by the artists and computer scientists who help bring Pixar's award-winning films to the big screen.

With more than 40 interactive exhibit elements, the exhibition's eight sections each focus on a step in the filmmaking process to give you an unparalleled view of the production pipeline and concepts used at Pixar every day. Students will participate in fun, engaging hands-on activities, listen to firsthand accounts from members of the studios' production teams, and even come face-to-face with re-creations of your favorite Pixar film characters, including Buzz Lightyear, Dory, Mike and Sulley, Edna Mode, and WALL-E! This exhibit was created by the Museum of Science, Boston in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios.

 

On Monday, December 5th, 2016, 7th graders will travel to the California Science Center for an eye-opening experiece. They well see eye-to-eye with a cow's eye and have the opportunity to learn about The Science Behind Pixar. Students will depart The Learning Castle at 8:30 a.m. and return to campus around 2:30 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Choicelunch on a feild trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Wednesday, November 16th, 2016.
