4th Grade Field Trip

The California Gold Rush

Wednesday, April 25, 2018

In this extremely popular program, Museum Teachers share the history of the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill and the resulting flood of immigration to California. Then, it's off to the gold miners, where students learn to pan for gold and visit a replica general store. The outdoor portion of this program is weather dependent.

The Autry National Center, formed in 2003 by the merger of the Autry Museum of Western Heritage with the Southwest Museum of the American Indian and the Women of the West Museum, is an intercultural history center dedicated to exploring and sharing the stories, experiences, and perceptions of the diverse peoples of the American West.

On Wednesday, April 25th, 2018, fourth-grade students will be traveling to the world-renowned Autry National Center to tour the museum and experience the California Gold Rush. Students will be departing La Canada Preparatory at 9:00 a.m. and returning to campus at 1:15 p.m.

Students will need to bring a sack lunch, including snack and drinks, in a clearly labeled disposable bag. Please make sure that you do not order Choicelunch on a field trip day.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please complete and return the attached Field Trip Permission form by Friday, April 6th, 2018.
