TLC/LCP Extend Winter Break

TLC and LCP have determined that given the present conditions the best course of action is to delay a return to campus for students until January 11, 2021.
TLC and LCP have been closely monitoring the virus surge over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we have not yet seen a decline in the number of positive cases or the number of hospitalizations. Our top priority during these unpredictable times is the health and safety of students and staff. To that end, we have determined that given the present conditions the best course of action is to delay a return to campus for students until January 11th. By delaying the return to campus until January 11th, all staff can be tested and the results of those tests can be known before students return. Additionally, this delay allows enough time to pass from holiday season gatherings for tests to more accurately detect the virus and/or individuals to be aware of any Covid related illness. To address the reduction of academic days, the in-person school year will be extended for an additional week in June 2021.

This change to the in-person classes does not change the school year schedule for distance learning students. Distance learning classes will resume on January 4th as previously scheduled.

The Learning Castle and La Canada Preparatory remain committed to in-person learning, but it is important that we remain flexible and respond prudently to the realities of the health situation in our community.  The pandemic has necessitated many alterations and adjustments to the way we go about our lives, and the manner in which we accomplish our goals. Be assured that we will continue to faithfully balance student and staff safety with the important role of education and socialization that in-person learning provides to our students.

Our community has done a tremendous job reacting and responding to the trials and tribulations of 2020, and we are so thankful to welcome 2021 in partnership and cooperation with an amazing community of students, staff and families. The upcoming year promises a return to a more familiar existence. We can now see the finish line of this health crisis on the horizon. To get there safely, we must continue to tread carefully while we move forward inexorably.
