17th Chess Tournament Crowns Winners
On March 3, 2025, the 17th Annual LCP Open Chess Tournament opened with four first-round matches. After three months of lunches, 102 matches, and 222 games, the tournament came to a conclusion on Monday afternoon, June 9, 2025.
For the third consecutive year, Gayane Pogosyan (LCP Upper School Champion) faced off against Sebastian Azarian (LCP Lower School Champion) for the All-School Chess Championship.
In a very well-played and entertaining match, Gayane was able to edge out Sebastian and take home her third consecutive title. Gayane joined alumnus Alexander Grigoryan ('17, '18 and '19) as the only players in school history to win three consecutive tournaments.
Leon Tonoyan defeated Dylan Polanco to take home the Bronze Medal.
Sona Kistorian was named Best Newcomer, and the match between Leon Tonoyan and Vincent Mahdessian was named Best Match of the Tournament.
