All LCP students audition for and perform in the annual Spring Musical. In addition to the leading speaking and singing roles, LCP students have the opportunity to participate in supporting roles and with dance and singing ensembles.  Every LCP student who wishes has the opportunity to appear on stage.  

The annual Spring Musical at The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory is not your average middle school production.  With the help of the Annual Giving Campaign, TLC and LCP are able to bring a professional production values to each year’s show.  From sets and props to sound and lights, the Spring Musical is set up to amaze and entertain.

The TLC and LCP Performing Arts Department has produced the abridged junior versions of such Broadway standards as Into the Woods, Willy Wonka, Schoolhouse Rock, Annie, Honk, Seussical, Alice in Wonderland, and two Broadway revues, to name but few.

The Performing Arts Department staff consists of former and current professionals in their fields, Kristin Maitlen, singing and movement: Michael Villagomez, dance; Rakkell Villagomez, dance; and Justin Whalin, acting.

Broadway Junior Revue 2: The Next Level (2024)

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s Performing Arts department repeated the successful format of 2023 with its spring production, Broadway Junior Revue 2: The Next Level.
 
Broadway Junior Revue 2: The Next Level was comprised of scenes from seven Broadway musicals, Annie, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Encanto, Moana and Hamilton.

The Next Level was an appropriate name for this musical as the performances and production values set new high marks for the department.

Broadway Junior Revue (2023)

On Saturday, March 18, 2023, after a four-year hiatus due the global pandemic, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s Performing Arts department opened its spring production, Broadway Junior Revue.
 
Broadway Junior Revue was comprised of scenes from six Broadway musicals, Annie, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.

The shows were well received with near sell-out audiences for both performances.

The Wizard of Oz (2019)

On Saturday, March 23, 2019, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s performing arts department opened its spring production of The Wizard of Oz.
 
The Wizard of Oz is an abridged version of the 1939 movie musical of the same name. In tribute to the 80th anniversary of the film’s release, TLC and LCP incorporated numbers from two notable Oz spinoffs, The Wiz and Wicked.


Beauty and the Beast (2018)

On Saturday, March 17, 2018, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s performing arts department opened their spring production of Beauty and the Beast, Jr.
 
Beauty and the Beast, Jr., is an abridged version of the 1994 Broadway musical, Beauty and the Beast, which was, in turn, adapted from the 1991 Walt Disney film of the same name. Beauty and the Beast ran on Broadway for thirteen years and is the tenth longest-running production in history.

The Little Mermaid (2017)

On Saturday, March 18, 2017, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s performing arts department opened their spring production of The Little Mermaid, Jr.
 
The Little Mermaid, Jr., an abridged version of the 2007 Broadway musical, The Little Mermaid, follows the adventures of a young mermaid, Ariel, who dreams about a world above the sea. With music written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, The Little Mermaid has been produced around the country and the world.

The Lion King (2016)

On Saturday, March 19, 2016 The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s performing arts department opened their spring production of The Lion King, Jr.
 
The Lion King, Jr., an abridged version of the 1997 Broadway musical, The Lion King, follows the adventures of a young lion prince, Simba, who is accused of killing his father, King Mufasa, and thereby cast out of the pride by his evil uncle Scar.  With music written by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice, The Lion King is now the third longest running musical in Broadway history and the top-earning title in box-office history for both stage and film.

Aladdin (2015)

On Saturday, April 18, 2015, The Learning Castle and La Cañada Preparatory’s performing arts department opened their spring production of Aladdin, Jr.
 
Aladdin, Jr., an abridged version of the 2011 musical, Aladdin, follows the story of a poor young man, Aladdin, who finds a magic lamp and uses his wishes to marry the beautiful princess of Agrabah, Jasmine, while thwarting the conniving Jafar. With music written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman, Tim Rice and Chad Beguelin, Aladdin made its Broadway debut in 2014 and was nominated for five Tony Awards.
